Asrina is a low-cost, portable mobile toolkit that consists of the following components:
- Library of culturally relevant videos that present scenarios parents might face in their everyday life relating to oral health and nutrition.
- Mobile projector and speakers to deliver training to a large group.
- Audience response system using paper cards + a mobile phone called Plickers. Plickers enables users to vote anonymously for answer choices by holding up a paper with a bar code symbol which can be read by a mobile phone application.
How it Works
A group of parents or community health workers watch the instructional video and then one of the video scenarios. They then turn to a partner and discuss what they would do if faced with the situation. A facilitator encourages sharing ideas with the group and further discussion. Then, a set of four possible answer choices are presented and each learner uses the paper-based “Plickers” system to anonymously vote for their answer choices, allowing a facilitator to identify general trends in responses. We emphasize that there is no single correct answer, but rather that people should build upon their own experience to make a recommendation. A facilitator then discusses the answers and issues around the scenario. Multiple scenarios videos may be used in a training session.
